EU funding secured to prevent childhood obesity

Our Policy and Public Affairs Department is expanding and developing our evidence for policy work

24 April 2018

World Cancer Research Fund International, as part of an international research consortium, has been granted funding for a five-year project by the competitive European Commission Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.

The project, entitled Confronting Obesity: Co-creating policy with youth, will begin in spring 2018. The project will enable us to expand our current policy focus area of promoting healthy diets to include physical activity. We will build on our unique NOURISHING framework and policy database, which outlines a comprehensive approach for governments to promote healthy diets. A key and innovative part of the project will include the direct involvement of youth to outline policies which matter to them in preventing childhood obesity in Europe.

Kate Allen, Executive Director of Science and Public Affairs, said:

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant from the European Commission, which recognises our expertise in policy research and analysis in the areas of diet, weight and physical activity. We look forward to supporting governments to develop and implement effective policies that create healthy environments for children and young people in Europe.”
