World Cancer Day 2016: we can prevent cancer

Our network marks World Cancer Day

4 February 2016

Today is World Cancer Day and to mark it we asked guest blogger Annie Anderson from the Scottish Cancer Prevention Network to share her thoughts on cancer prevention.

We’re also inviting people to spread the cancer prevention message to family and friends by sharing our Cancer Prevention Recommendations video on Twitter and Facebook.

World Cancer Day takes place on 4 February every year and people all over the world use this day to draw attention to all aspects of cancer, from prevention to treatment to care.

WCRF International is a proud supporter of the day, which is coordinated by our partner Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

The theme this year is I Can/We Can, where all over social media people are sharing what they can do to prevent cancer. Take a look at the vines we have created about what we can do to help prevent cancer.

Here are some of the other World Cancer Day activities taking place across our Network.

Join I CAN… to make easy healthy lifestyle changes

World Cancer Research Fund UK is running a campaign to help people improve their diet, weight and activity levels as well as reduce their alcohol intake. Those who sign up will receive daily emails with simple tips on how to make lifestyle changes to help prevent cancer.

Find out what increases cancer risk – take the quiz!

American Institute of Cancer Research has published a blog on the importance of World Cancer Day and Cancer Prevention Month, and has also launched a quiz about our awareness of cancer risks.

Collaborating to fight cancer

World Cancer Research Fund Netherlands (Wereld Kanker Onderzoeks Fonds) is collaborating with the National Cancer Registry of the Netherlands (IKNL), IPSO and the Dutch Cancer Society to mark World Cancer Day.

A special website highlights the vital role of collaboration in the fight against cancer, and the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and aftercare in the fight against cancer.

WCRF Netherlands is also running their campaign Samen Kanker Voorkomen to raise national awareness of lifestyle cancer risk factors.
